The Chocolate Affaire, Jimmy Thomas, and me...

The man is definitely hero worthy. I'd heard about gentle strength, and he personifies it. He was also respectful and considerate, which means more than I can say. His kindness and good humor created a sense of approachability and fun. He is aware of those around him while focusing on the person with whom he is interacting. Some of the heroes in my books look like Jimmy, some don't. I want them all to feel like Jimmy, protective, with a subtle leashed power, and lovable.

  1. What an awesome picture! I didn't realize you'd had a chance to meet him personally, how awesome! \o/

  2. Jimmy is an absolute sweetheart. We've been stationed near or beside him at RT several times, but this last year proved his... um... 'sweetheartedness'? Is that a word? It is now.

My daughter, a YA author who is, well, a Young Adult herself (18 at the time she attended RT last year) had her first RT experience in 2011. We, of course, were taking pictures everywhere with everyone.

My daughter is petite... not quite five feet tall... and when I asked her if she wanted a picture with Jimmy, she looked at him, tipped back her head to look at his face, and said no. "He's way too tall". :-)

Jimmy joked and said "I can crouch".

Ultimately, she did get the photo... and we didn't make him crouch. Nice guy.

  3. All my heroes have that gentle strength you mentioned, which is why I'm thrilled to have found out about Jimmy. I'm also thrilled he's on my upcoming book, Sparks!

How lucky for you to have met him, Laurel. BTW, the heroine in my current work in progress is named Laurel. And just guess who her hero looks like. ;)

    Have a great day!

  4. Laurel, I hope if you read Sparks that you'll like it. It'll be out in late April. You can see its (beautiful) Jimmy cover and read a bit about the book at my website:

  5. Yep, it's hard not to love that cover. I'm so glad I found out about Jimmy before my book's release. Otherwise, I know I wouldn't have the cover of my dreams. And, considering I designed two of my earlier books' covers, that's saying something. LOL

    Enjoy your day!

  6. Laurel, you've described Jimmy so well. He really is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. He's one of my favorite people and I always look forward to seeing him at RT. I'm glad you had the chance to meet him. :-)

Last year I was lucky enough to win his breakfast in bed with cover model contest which raises money for a local animal shelter/rescue organization. Ordinarily in a situation like that I'd have turned red as a tomato and never been able to eat, but he has a way of making others feel comfortable and in no time at all he had me laughing. (That kindness and good humor you mentioned.) :-)

It is a blessing to have met Jimmy. I wish everyone could have that chance.
